Head Constables of Winchester City Police

There were eight ‘Head Constables’ of Winchester City Police between its formation in 1832 and when it was amalgamated with Hampshire Joint Police Force in 1943.

1832 – 1833 Inspector Robert Buchanan (previously served in the Metropolitan Police)

1833 – 1851 William Shepherd (born 1802, Oxford) (previously served in the Metropolitan Police)

1851 – 1872 Superintendent Henry Hubbersty (born 1813, London) (previously served in the Metropolitan Police and Norfolk Constabulary)
