The attached photograph shows a Police Constable’s metal belt buckle. It has the Queen’s Crown and the Hampshire Rose. This would have been worn by officers during the reign of Queen Victoria. Interestingly it is inscribed with the words ‘COM SOUTHTON’. This stood for the County of Southampton. Many people assume that this was a Southampton County Borough Police belt. However the official administrative title for our county was County of Southampton right up until 1959 when it was at last changed to Hampshire.
