This week we will be setting up a new display at the Hampshire Police and Fire Heritage Collection at Solent Sky Museum covering the Monocled Mutineer, Percy Toplis. The display will feature original images of the people involved in the fascinating story as well as the original monocle worn by Percy Toplis. In time the display will be augmented with a short video presentation giving more detail of events that took place in 1920 in Hampshire, Scotland and Cumbria.
I’m researching my cousin Sgt Ross Lewis Clark RAF, Ross was police constable in Portsmouth during the early stages of world war 2, through what ever reasons, Ross wanted to serve in the RAF, he joined Bomber Command serving with 166 squadron based at Kirmington ( Humberside today) Ross was the mid Upper gunner on the Lancaster. They were shot down over Switzerland on the 27th April 44. Buried in Vevey. I was informed a book had / was been written detailing the men who served Portsmouth police, and later some never made it home. I think the guy who was writing the book was Derek??? Anyway have you any knowledge on this book please
