Stephen John Hellier
1955-2004
Stephen was born on 5th December 1955 in London. He was a Hampshire Constabulary Police Cadet from 3rd September 1972 to 30th December 1974.
Stephen joined Hampshire Constabulary on 31st December 1974 as Police Constable 432 and was living at 36 St Pirans Avenue, Portsmouth.
On 3rd December 1977 he married Vivienne Travers at St Nicholas Church, Brockenhurst.
Stephen served at Southampton Central, New Milton, Fordingbridge (Breamore) and Bitterne. He was a popular beat officer in Sholing for over 20 years, and latterly worked on the Crime Desk at Southampton Central.
He was a school governor at St Monica’s Primary School, Sholing, and Chamberlayne Park Secondary School at Weston. He was an active campaigner for Cats Protection and was a leading member of Hampshire Police Choir.
Stephen passed away in September 2004 after collapsing at the wheel of his car. He was driving near to Bitterne Police Station when he had a heart attack.
