John Anthony Hyde
1938-2022
John was a Police Cadet between 1954-1957, joining Portsmouth City Police in 1957. His career covered duties as a Motorcyclist, on Vice Squad and CID prior to Amalgamation with Hampshire Constabulary in 1967.
John served at Cosham, Fratton, Southsea, Andover, Aldershot, Winchester, Special Operations, Training and was Staff Officer to HMI. He retired from Hampshire Constabulary after 25 years’ service as Chief Superintendent on the Isle of Wight. John transferred to Sussex Police for a further 5 years, retiring from his police career after 30 years as Head of the Force Review Team.
John went on to serve as a Senior Inspector with the Gaming Board for Great Britain, retiring in 2002 and returning to his beloved Hampshire. He came out of retirement in 2007-2009 to become a Facilities Officer at ACRO.
John was born on the 22nd June 1938 in Portsmouth to Sybil (Lucy) Hyde (Nurse) and Percival Hyde (Police Sergeant). He died on 18th October 2022.
John was married and has two daughters.
