Dennis Frederick Read

1935-1993

Dennis was born on 2nd March 1935 in Stowmarket, Suffolk to Frederick and Isobel Read.

He served with the Royal Military Police for three years, being discharged on 11th May 1956.

Dennis joined Hampshire Constabulary on 29th June 1956, as Police Constable 329. At the time he was a shop assistant at International Tea Stores Ltd, Stowmarket and living at Chilton Hall, Bury Road, Stowmarket.

He was posted to Christchurch on 29th September 1956. His other postings were 1st May 1958 to Fordingbridge and on 4th March 1960 to Highcliffe.

On 16th October 1970 Dennis was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and posted to Aldershot. His final postings were on 8th February 1972 to Aldershot Town, on 28th March 1978 to Headquarters Firearms, and on 1st January 1983 to OS Firearms.

He retired on 31st August 1986. Dennis died in June 1993 in Winchester.
