David William Bradley
1933-1994
David was born on 19th June 1933 at Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight. His parents were William and Nellie (Nee Payne).
He served for 2 years with the Royal Regiment of Artillery, being discharged on 17th December 1953.
He joined Hampshire Constabulary on 2nd April 1954 as Police Constable 355. At the time he was living at 8 Tennyson View, Calbourne, Isle of Wight and was working as a Clerk for the Isle of Wight County Council in Newport.
In January 1956 he married Jean Markham in Winchester.
He served as a Constable at Winchester, Police Headquarters, Hartley Row and Fareham. In January 1961 he attended a Detective Training Course at Hendon. He was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant on 6th September 1963 and posted to Newport. He then served at Farnborough.
In August 1968 he was promoted to the rank of Detective Inspector and posted to Farnborough but seconded to New Scotland Yard C9. He then served at Southampton Central, Shirley and Winchester.
In December 1974 he was promoted to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector, and in April 1977 he was further promoted to the rank of Detective Superintendent and posted to O NSHQ (Crime Co-ordinator). His final posting was to ‘O’ Special Enquiries Co-ordinator in December 1978. He retired on 27th June 1982.
David died on 9th March 1994 in Winchester whilst living at Anton, 13 Uplands Road, Winchester.
