Claire Browne

1980-2025

Claire grew up in Sawbridgeworth on the Hertfordshire and Essex border. After GCSEs and A levels at the local secondary school, she studied at Liverpool John Moores University and Southampton University. Claire graduated from Southampton University with a degree in Sports Science.

At the end of her university studies Claire said that she would be making a life for herself in Southampton and it was her intention to apply to become a police officer.

Claire served the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight as a police officer for almost 20 years. She was a dedicated, compassionate, and caring officer who had a smile for everyone. She served in many different roles during her career and was awarded commendations for bravery and good policing along the way.

Claire was a keen athlete and represented the Constabulary at national events in athletics and tennis.

Tragically in 2025, while under investigation by Professional Standards Department, Claire’s mental health deteriorated to the point that she could see no way out other than to take her own life. This she did at her home in Netley on 7th July 2025.

Claire will never be forgotten by her family, friends, police colleagues and the many people whose lives she touched in so many ways.
