19 January 1967 – Southampton Borough and City Police Criminal Investigation Department have a farewell dinner at the Skyway Hotel, West Quay Road, Southampton to commemorate the ending of the city CID before its amalgamation with Hampshire Constabulary in April that year.The Master of Ceremonies was Detective Sergeant John Whale and the dinner was attended by Chief Constable Alfred Cullen.The city CID was originally formed in 1889 by Chief Constable Philip Clay who appointed one sergeant and two constables. He appointed himself the Coroner’s Officer.
